Kennedy rides another Gr1 in New Zealand

South African Jockey Warren Kennedy claimed yet another New Zealand Gr 1 event when he was took out the NZ Oaks on a cheapie that was never meant for him bar the fact that she didn't get sold.

Chad Ormsby, once a victorious apprentice jockey on Creil in the Gr.1 Avondale Cup, triumphed anew as Pulchritudinous claimed the Gr.1 Al Basti Equiworld Dubai New Zealand Oaks at Trentham on Saturday.

Ormsby, now a trainer in Cambridge, has led his modest 5 horse team to success, with eight wins this season, including Pulchritudinous's victories in the Oaks and Gr.2 Lowland Stakes, and Master Fay's win in the Gr.3 Concorde Handicap.

"Group One wins are our pinnacle," Ormsby expressed. "Our small but dedicated team makes it all possible."

Apart from training, Ormsby excels in other endeavors, recently winning a bull-riding competition before Pulchritudinous's Oaks triumph. Additionally, he manages Ready to Run Sale drafts under Riverrock Farm.

Originally meant for sale, Pulchritudinous, bought for $32,500, showcased her worth with victories after being passed in at the Ready to Run Sale.

Ridden by Warren Kennedy, Pulchritudinous's impressive display of stamina and skill secured her Oaks victory, adding to her three wins and a placing in seven starts, with earnings reaching $389,205.

Kennedy, relishing the victory, noted Pulchritudinous's potential for more success, considering her progressive nature over extended distances.

Bred by Tony Rider, Pulchritudinous's Oaks triumph marks a milestone for Highview Stud stallion Wrote, as she swiftly climbs the ranks in the NZB Filly of the Year Series.
