Jockey Stefano Cherchi hasi tragically passed away today due to injuries sustained in a fall in Australia on March 20th.
The 23-year-old jockey, originally from Sardinia, had been in a medically induced coma in the intensive care unit of a Canberra hospital following the incident on the city track involving his horse and two others.
Cherchi, who had ridden over 100 winners in Britain while stationed in Newmarket, had achieved two victories since his arrival in Australia in January.
His parents and his girlfriend, Britanny Fallon, daughter of former British champion jockey Kieren Fallon, had rushed to Australia to be by Cherchi's side during this difficult time..
The New South Wales Jockey Associate stated, "With deep sadness, the Cherchi family have announced their beloved son Stefano passed away peacefully today.The family are very grateful for the love, prayers & messages sent by the racing community across the world."
