Giga Kick targets Melbourne next

Expect to see the conqueror of The Everest sprint sensation Giga Kick in action at Flemington but his trainer Clayton Douglas hasn’t decided which of two races he will contest.

Douglas said his options for Giga Kick were the $2 million G1 Coolmore Stud Stakes on October 29 or the $3 million G1 VRC Darley Champions Sprint on November 5.

Douglas speaking on Racing.com's The Wrap on Sunday morning said it would probably be the Coolmore Stud Stakes.

“He’ll be back in Melbourne on Tuesday morning. We’ll get him home and into good order. Then we’ll make a plan. If he travels well and we’re happy with him we’d probably go to the Coolmore if not the other race. We’ll sort that out when we get home,” Douglas said.

Douglas said he spent the few hours after The Everest win in a state of disbelief.

“I spent a lot of nights dreaming that my horse had won The Everest. I walked the 1200 metre start 40,000 times I reckon,” Douglas said.

Giga Kick took his earnings to $7,142,200 with his $6,749,000 won in The Everest.

Although Giga Kick had won each of his four starts, Douglas said Giga Kick demonstrated for the first time in The Everest the talent he had shown him at home.

He said his confidence gained a boost when they worked him last Tuesday morning at Randwick and he was so focused and professional.

Douglas said it was amazing that the first horse he had trained for Jonathan Munz was Giga Kick and “he was a star.”

He said his uncle Rod ‘Rocket’ Douglas was Munz’s bloodstock manager and they had built a relationship as a result.

“He’s one out of the box. It’s phenomenal that he could go from a Sale Maiden in February to winning The Everest. He does things normal horses can’t do,” Douglas said.
