Nysos, hailed as the unbeatable titan among 3-year-old Thoroughbreds nationwide, finds himself benched without a clear roadmap for his return to the tracks.

Trainer Bob Baffert disclosed in a recent text message, as initially reported by Thoroughbred Daily News, that Nysos will undergo a 30-day period of leisurely strolls, with no concrete racing plans in sight.

When pressed about any potential physical ailments afflicting the Nyquist colt, Baffert assured that all was well, labeling the setback as "minor."

Nysos' anticipated appearance at the Grade 2 San Felipe on March 3 was thwarted at the last minute, with Baffert opting to wait for the Santa Anita Derby instead. However, with the current sidelining, the April 6 Santa Anita Derby is now off the table for the promising colt, who hasn't clocked a timed workout since February 25.

The impressive Nysos, under the ownership of Baoma Corp, last showcased his prowess on February 3, clinching victory in the Robert B. Lewis (G3) and securing a career-best Beyer Speed Figure of 105, as noted by Daily Racing Form. He commenced his journey with a maiden triumph at Santa Anita on October 21, followed by another triumph in the Bob Hope (G3) at Del Mar on November 19. Nysos has triumphed in all three races by an impressive average margin of 8 3/4 lengths.

Given Baffert's ineligibility, Nysos is excluded from the Kentucky Derby 2024 roster, setting the stage for the Preakness on May 18 as his prime objective for the spring season. Notably, Nysos concluded as the 5-2 favorite in the inaugural Preakness Future Wager held from February 29 to March 2 by 1/ST Racing.
