FINGER LAKES NAMES NEW COMMENTATOR

Anthony Stabile, with a quarter-century dedicated to discussing and writing about horse racing, steps into the spotlight as the fresh voice of Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack. He assumes the esteemed role as only the third announcer in the track's storied 63-year history when the gates swing open for the 63rd season of Thoroughbred racing on April 29.

Expressing his excitement, Stabile remarked, "Since childhood, my ambition was to be a racetrack announcer, and I'm thrilled to embark on my first full-time position at Finger Lakes. It's an honor to contribute to a venue steeped in racing heritage, where beloved champions like Funny Cide left their mark."

Previously serving as the backup announcer for the New York Racing Association circuit from 2018 to 2023, Stabile currently holds a position as one of the track announcers at Yonkers Raceway. His expertise extends across various racing arenas, having called races at The Meadowlands and Freehold Raceway.

During his tenure at NYRA, Stabile co-hosted the Talking Horses handicapping show and featured on America's Day at the Races/Saratoga Live on the Fox Sports network. Additionally, he has been the virtual racetrack announcer and host of Kentucky Derby (G1), Belmont Stakes (G1), and Breeders' Cup events and seminars at Mohegan Sun Connecticut since 2003. His insights into handicapping and horse racing have been shared on numerous programs on the Horse Racing Radio Network from 2014 to 2021.

Since its inception in 1962, Finger Lakes has only witnessed two other announcers. The late Ross Morton, a revered figure in the Finger Lakes Hall of Fame, called races from 1962 to 2007, succeeded by Tony Calo, who held the reins from 2008 through the 2023 season. Calo recently accepted a full-time role with Churchill Downs Inc., where he will be the full-time race caller at Turfway Park and Ellis Park.

Grateful for the opportunity, Stabile extended his appreciation, saying, "Many thanks to everyone at Delaware North, Finger Lakes—and to my two mentors, John Imbriale and Frank Mirahmadi, for helping to make my childhood dream come true."

Chris Riegle, president and general manager of Finger Lakes, expressed enthusiasm about Stabile's addition to the racing team, noting that his extensive knowledge of New York State Thoroughbred racing will be a valuable asset in his new role.

Stabile will make his inaugural call at Finger Lakes on April 29, marking the commencement of the 91-day season. The first two weeks will feature live racing on Mondays and Tuesdays, transitioning to the regular Monday-Wednesday schedule starting May 15 and continuing through closing day on Nov. 27.
