Quid Pro Quo Injured!

The Team Valor-owned dual Grade 1 winner QUID PRO QUO, currently based in Dubai for an international campaign that began with a promising runner-up performance in last week’s G2 Cape Verdi Stakes, has been injured in a freak training incident at Meydan. The mare was in preparation for her intended next start in the G2 Balanchine when the incident occurred.

This remains a developing situation, but at this stage QUID PRO QUO is believed to have sustained a stress fracture to her pelvis following a routine canter earlier this morning.

The incident has been classified as a freak accident. The mare was not under pressure at the time, and there is no recent memory of a top horse from the stable suffering this type of injury.

QUID PRO QUO will require an initial period of 60 to 90 days of strict stall rest. She will remain in Dubai for the foreseeable future while her condition is managed and closely monitored.

Pelvic stress fractures can take several days to become evident on X-rays. As a result, the mare will be closely observed over the next four to five days, with a bone scan to be considered should the veterinary team feel it is necessary.

The connections are particularly thankful to the mare’s regular rider and groom, Coralie, who immediately noticed that QUID PRO QUO took an awkward step and pulled her up without delay. That swift reaction may have prevented a far more serious outcome.

The immediate priority is to keep the mare comfortable while continuing with any further diagnostic procedures required.

Barry Irwin commented, "I am thankful for the immediate attention from the veterinarian team at Meydan and all associated with the Reynier yard for quick assistance."

Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
