Tarry's Future Pearl Appeal dismissed

Merit Rating Appeal

An independent panel constituted in terms of Clauses 20.3 and 21.3 of the Constitution and consisting of Messrs Karel Miedema, Ash Maharaj and Graeme Hawkins was convened on 26 June 2026 to consider a Merit Rating Appeal lodged by Trainer S Tarry against the Official Merit Rating of FUTURE PEARL, specifically the Handicapper's decision not to reduce the horse's rating following his performance in the Lucky Fish Winter Stakes (G3) on 13 June 2026 at the Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse.

The Panel unanimously found that the Official Handicappers had acted reasonably and consistently with their established handicapping practices regarding horses returning from lengthy layoffs. The Panel was accordingly satisfied that there was no basis to interfere with the Handicappers' decision not to reduce FUTURE PEARL's merit rating following his return from an extended absence.

The Appeal was accordingly dismissed. However, having considered the circumstances of the matter, the Panel directed that the appeal deposit be refunded.
