Foxtrot Tango showed good pace with Tongabezi going with him in the early stages and Castanelli and Mon Oncle also up there. Dashing Rouge, Red Power and French Admiral were just off the early speed. Foxtrot Tango still led 300m out but challenges were coming thick and fast and all of Castanelli, French Admiral and Red Power were in contention to win in the last furlong. It looked s if Castanelli's late surge might just overcome Foxtrot Tango but the line came in time for the latter to win by a nose with a simila margin back to French Admiral who ran a cracking race on debut..

Magical seemed to cast a spell over his rivals, coming home well clear of the rest. He raced in midfield early on as Made You Look opened up a big lead from Classic Home, Thirty Nine Steps and Hot Pepper. Made You Look understandably tired in the straight with Hot Pepper briefly taking it up. Magical, however, had made up ground with a minimum of fuss and he went for his run down the inside, forging into the lead about 300m out and drawing well clear of the rest to win by over eight lengths as Thirty Nine Steps and Hot Pepper followed in his wake.

Shot In The Dark led once they settled down from Light Hearted Like, Cranberry Ice and Smooch with Silver Thread and Rambo's Belle in midfield. Odds-on Cranberry Ice went for home early but the wheels came off as she came under pressure in the straight. Smooch and Rambo's Belle were the biggest threats and they pulled clear to fight it out with Smooch just getting the verdict and a couple of lengths back to Silver Thread who just got up to shade Cranberry Ice for third, ensuring a disaster for Place Accumulator punters.

It may not have been the strongest of fields but it was nevertheless important for Full Power to impose himself if he wanted to convince that he was back on track to deliver on the promise he had showed early in his career. He duly did so, racing in about sixth place early on as Vincintore made the early running from Chico Azul, Goldenaire and Time Lord. Vincintore plugged away gamely in the straight and shook off the initial chalelnge of Chico Azul but then came under pressure from Sayadaw who had started to run on from behind. Full Power, meanwhile, had switched inwards for a run and, having travelled comfortably all the way down the straight, was finally asked to go 200m out. He soon settled the issue, coasting home without being ridden out as Sayadaw kept on for second ahead of Vincintore.

As expected, an Australian

-bred victory, but not in the form of favourite Dan De Lago who had to settle for third. Instead it was Usambara who landed the odds. He raced in midfield early as Tie The Knot went out to lead Bluebell Dancer, Bernie's Pride, Dan De Lago. Tie The Knot kept going for a while in the straight but the pressure was mounting as Dan De Lago made his move along the outside. Usambara was starting to get going to the inside and Nomafashini was also getting into it. Usambara was clearly travelling best in the last furlong and he ran on well to win by a length with Nomafashini coming best of the rest to relegate Dan De Lago to third.

The front runners were soon in trouble in the straight and Pattaya Beach moved through effortlessly to strike the front about 300m out. The race was over as a contest as he cruised home by over three lengths. Greenwich Park had chased him over the last furlong but he was edged into third place as Forest Of Dreams ran on from behind.

Bhekinkosi went out to show the way from Echo Of Thunder, The K.O. Kid, Do It Like Dane, Albert Einstein, Urban Reason and Keep Flying. Bheknkosi kept going for some way in the straight but finally gave way 250m out as Echo Of Thunder went past with Do It Like Dane pressing wider out. Keep Flying, meanwhile, had slipped through along the inside and was also in contention. Echo Of Thunder looked as if he might have got to the front at the right time but Do It Like Dane was coming at him with a sustained challenge and got up on the line for the narrowest of victories with Keep Flying running a very good race in third.

ROYAL EXIT FOR PUNTERS IN TOMMY HOTSPUR

The fancied runners went missing in the Gr 3 Tommy Hotspur Handicp over 1000m at Turffontein today with 10/1 shot Royal Exit (ZIM) finishing best to see off Beat Patrol (SAF), South Country (SAF) and Picadilly Miss (SAF).

Renegade, as usual, broke well but was passed by South Country with Cyber Case and Hurricane Force tracking the leading pair and Royal Exit racing between the latter two. Picadilly Miss was next best with Beat Patrol among the backmarkers.

South Country was still going well about 300m out as Renegade backpedalled and Royal Exit started to make up ground and Picadilly Miss came forward to be a big danger along the inside. Royal Exit got the better of South Country but still had to contend with Picadilly Miss. He won that battle as well and by the time Beat Patrol appeared on the scene, Royal Exit had done enough to secure the biggest victory of his career.

The winner has been holding form well of late and has also been taking on some decent opposition so he wasn't exactly winning out of turn here. His victory continued a great run for form for trainer Paul Matchett, jockey Randall Simons and sire Kitalpha (USA).

Beat Patrol, South Country and Picadilly Miss finished almost in a line and none of them was disgraced stepping up in class.

Icy Compliment won the battle for the lead from Chasing Stars, Sudden Time, Anglo Saxon, Rocket Propulsion and Straight Talking with Gate Baron among the backmarkers. Rocket Propulsion moved into contention in the straight with Sudden Time but they were about to be swamped. Anglo Saxon started a determined run to their outside and Straight Talking had made his way along the inside. This latter pair fought it out to the line with Anglo Saxon just going enough for a narrow win as Gate Baron ran on from well back for third.
