Cold Hearted Cat moved up soon after turning for home with Filharmonica also making swift progress and but the latter swept into the lead abut 300m out. Cold Hearted Cat chased all the way but Filharmonica was just over a length to the good at the line with All Prophet running on late for third.

Parade Prince was the eventual leader from Lucero De Gloria, Armstrong House and Mister Dane with Bad Boy in midfield and Castle Rock and Admiral Camden some way back. Parade Prince came under pressure in the straight with Mister Dane and Armstrong House the initial challengers bu the stage was merely being set for Admiral Camden who swept through from well off the pace to win going away. Castle Rock and Bad Boy flashed up late to complete the trifecta.

A return to form for Hurricane Silver, who has never been short of ability but has had his fair share of problems. He took up his customary front running role ahead of Irish Coffee, Captain's League and Alvaro with Hilgrove in midfield. Hurricane Silver kept going in the straight with none of the others looking like getting on terms and he got home by just over a length. Alvaro chased him all the ay down the straight but despite a game effort under 62kg, was relegated to third by the flying Hilgrove.

MOTHER RUSSIA EASES HOME IN PRIX DU CAP

Mother Russia (SAF) was backed to the exclusion of the field in the Gr 3 Riverworld Stud Prix Du Cap over 1400m at Kenilworth today and it proved well justified as she came home a comfortable winner ahead of Temair (SAF), Journal (SAF) and Purple Orchid (GB).

As usual, the Majorca Stakes winner raced handy, tracking stablemate Ice Belle who went out to make the running as Temair raced up in third ahead of Joshua's Mistress who raced three wide. Journal was next best ahead of Cocoa Beach and Nordic Moon as Purple Orchid raced fourth from last.

Mother Russia moved in to challenge for the lead soon after turning for home and put her head in front but Temair came out to make a race of it with none of the others looking likely to get in a blow. Temair threatened for a while but Mother Russia asserted herself over the last 150m and won easier than the official margin suggests. Temair was very game in second with Journal running a cracker in third ahead of Purple Orchid who yet again finished on the fringes in a feature event but was not disgraced conceding weight all round.

There's still a long way to go before the end of the current season but Mother Russia is certainly a front-runner for the champion 3-year-old filly award at this stage and the diminutive daughter of Windrush (USA) can be relied on to give her all wherever the rest of her programme takes her.

Target Acquired has shown star potential from day one and he continued his upward curve with a superb performance here. He was taking a big step  up in class and, having been held up in the early stages, looked unlikely to run a place entering the last furlong. By this time, Casey Cool had skipped clear and was going great guns with Thunder Key, who had been prominent throughout, giving chase. With all attention focused on whether Thunder Key would nab Casey Cool, Target Acquired took off and got up on the line for a spectacular win. This was only his fourth career start and he was taking on some very decent, battle-hardened sprinters here, so his connections have every reason to be excited about his future prospects. Thunder Key and Casey Cool both emerged with plenty of credit conceding weight to such a smart rival and Golden Dice deserves a mention for a very useful run in fourth, not beaten far under 63kg.
