BISHOP`S ROCK STROLLS HOME

BISHOP`S ROCK STROLLS HOME

The son of Redoute`s Choice, Bishop`s Rock stamped himself as a major contender for feature race honours later in the season as he strolled home in a Progress Plate at Turffontein on Saturday.

The 3/10 favourite made the opposition look very mediocre. The Anthony Peter owned gelding romped home by 5 lengths. The market rival of the favourite, Fez, ran a disappointing race to finish last. Fez is a 2yo Group 1 winner, but he was giving the favourite 6 kgs. Fez had made the pace in the running with Bishop`s Rock well placed in third. As Fez fell out of contention 400m out, Bishop`s Rock strode clear and never looked back. He is trained by Ormond Ferraris and was ridden by M.J Odendaal.

Bishop`s Rock has a merit rating of 100, the highest rated maiden winner in the country before this start. This win takes Bishop`s Rock`s record to 2 wins from 5 starts. His claim to fame was a narrow defeat by Champion 2yo colt, Candidato Roy in the S.A Nursery.

Bishop`s Rock is by Redoute`s Choice out of Radium Springs by Sir Tristram. He cost A$55.000 and was bred by Dowsett Thoroughbreds in Australia.
