With form turnarounds the order of the day, it's time for punters to stay vigilant and play very carefully. There are three factors that are determining this.
The favourites that are winning, are not obvious choices and one will find that selections are running to some form but not winning form.
This is explained simply. It's a perfect storm of scenerios that exists at this time of year when three main issues come to head.
The first is that everyone has been spoilt with great racing in KZN over the past few month. This means that's we are used to seeing horses run to decent form.
The season is over and the Cape trainers have migrated back to their Cape homes leaving a void in decent horses in Kzn. This is coupled with the change of ground conditions in Cape Town from good to soft with the winter rains in full swing. This is ca aiding havoc with the form. The third is the poor quality of racing in Gauteng with the surfaces extremely hard and require sound horses to finish off the races. The general public isn't privileged to the information on soundness of horses so there will be form turnarounds in that region. Added to all of this, horses around the country go for their annual Africa Horse Sickness vaccinations which puts horses off for a bit and they can take some times to recover from these injections.
There is no center in South Africa that runs fair at the moment in terms of the form and needs to be watched. Our advice to punters has been to pick carefully and stay out of most racing unless something special stands out.
Everything else that is selected is a guess because it is simply impossible to select horse that do not run to form.
The solution is to wait it out, play carefully and get advice from specialists on what to bet and how to bet.
