Do you have any family connections to racing? If yes please elaborate.
No, I do not have any family connections to racing.

How did you get involved in becoming an apprentice?
I fell in love with the sport on television and then I did research on how to become a jockey and where to train. This is how I found out about the SA Jockey Academy and asked my parents to apply for me and I was accepted.

Are there any special traits especially or requirements one needs for the profession?
Yes the right height, weight and body fat and the strength to hold horses,

How do you keep fit physically and mentally?
Physically I do lots of training like playing soccer and running. Mentally I listen motivational speakers and think positively.

Who, if anyone, has inspired you in racing?
S'Manga Khumalo was the one who inspired me to become a jockey.

What are the qualities or attributes that an apprentice needs to have in order to be successful in this game?
One needs to be a hard worker, be determined and hungry for success. Show dedication, be humble and respectful amongst their fellow apprentices and senior jockeys..

Locally, I would like to win the biggest race in Africa which is the Vodacom Durban July. Internationally, I would like to win the Kentucky Derby.

Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse

Give us an example of what you have learnt about racing riding (or work riding) specific to your technique or weakness that you have worked on successfully?
I have learnt that a horse works harder when doing a half pace rather than three quarter pace because it is working against your body weight.

Where do you see yourself in the future in this racing industry?
I see myself racing in Dubai.

What do you think of the SAJA and the work they do for you?
I think there wouldn't be as many young successful jockeys in the country because they play a massive role in developing young talent and bringing out the best in apprentices.

What advice would give a someone keen in getting involved in becoming an apprentice?
To stay focused on what they came here to do and to accept failure because we learn from our mistakes.
