Situated at 4,800ft in the tranquil KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, Sarsden Stud offers premier boutique livery for broodmares, mares to be covered and young stock. Thoroughbreds, warmbloods and sport horses are all welcome.
Every Horse Receives Genuine Individual Attention
As a boutique operation, every horse receives genuine one-on-one attention. Our Stud Manager brings a proven record from one of KwaZulu-Natal's leading commercial studs, achieving a 98% conception rate in her first season managing the teasing and covering programme, overseeing the successful foaling of 45 mares, and providing daily hands-on care for more than 120 horses.
At Sarsden, that same expertise is focused on a small, carefully managed herd, allowing any injury or the first sign of a horse being off colour to be identified and attended to immediately.
Year-Round Nutrition & Grazing
Sarsden grows four hectares of Eragrostis, which is cut and baled to provide quality winter forage. These lands are then established with ryegrass for controlled winter grazing. A further five hectares of Kikuyu pasture is oversown with perennial ryegrass each winter, ensuring fresh grazing and quality forage throughout every season.
Our Care Programme Includes
- Complete broodmare management – teasing, covering coordination and veterinary liaison.
- Foaling down, post-foaling mare care and dedicated foal care.
- Farrier attendance every four weeks with close monitoring of foals' leg development.
- Rigid deworming and dipping protocols, with individually tailored nutrition programmes for weanlings.
- Sales and show preparation drawing on genuine show-ring experience. Our youngsters are handled from birth, developing confidence, manners and balance from an early age.
At Sarsden Stud we breed horses ourselves, but first and foremost, we are passionate about horses.
The result is well-balanced, well-grown and confident young horses raised in one of the most serene settings in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands.
