A strong and consistent trade was in evidence at the two day October Horses
In Training Sales with a top price of 105,000 guineas.
Mark Johnston`s CARTE DIAMOND (Lot 332) fell to the bid of Bobby O`Ryan who
saw off a determined challenge from Steve Gollings for the two time winner and
he will now be trained by Brian Ellison.
The sale prompted the following statement from DBS Managing Director Henry
Beeby - "We`ve said it time and again and we`ve proved it time and again
; "Send us the horses and we get the maximum prices" and today has
proved the point yet again. We are, of course, indebted to the likes of Darley
and Gainsborough for their support with impressive drafts and they have told us
they are more than happy with their results. Prices of 105,000 guineas, 80,000
guineas, 75,000 guineas, 55,000 guineas etc. illustrated our excellent strike
rate and the top price takes our 100,000 guineas plus tally to 32 since last
May.
In general, we are more than satisfied with the trade at all levels which has
proved solid in all departments. Yes, we`ve seen bigger crowds at DBS but at
this time of the year there are few spectators at any sale as everyone is so
busy with a sale virtually every day at one location or another and only turn up
to do real business but British and Irish buyers have had to compete with
bidders from Belgium, Denmark, Greece, Italy, Kuwait, Norway, Sweden, USA
etc."
