PURE POWER FROM POCKET AS CHAMP ROMPS HOME

Pocket Power sent out a clear warning that this could be his best season yet in Durban as the son of Jet Master put on his after burners and lit up Clairwood in his sensational seasonal debut at the South Durban track.

Running over a distance short of his best, 1450m and against the top class Our Giant in this R100 000 Pinnacle Stakes race, he more than solidified his place at the top of the Vodacom July betting boards with a most impressive effortless win.

Our Giant was well off with Drayton also fast after the break. By the 1200m pole, Drayton stole a 10 length advantage from Our Giant, Autumn Frost and Bill of Rights next best. Past the 800m pole, Pocket Power was some fourteen lengths behind Drayton but racing within himself at that stage. Our Giant was six lengths back in second.

At the 400m pole, Pocket Power was in the perfect place and ready to make his run down the center of the track six lengths behind Drayton. Our Giant challenged Drayton with Bill of Rights, but it was Pocket Power who poured on the pressure in the final 200m to romp home with a convincing win signaling his well being before the Group 1 races this winter season.

Our Giant ran well in second at level weights with Pocket Power (61 kgs) as did 4th pace getter, Bill of Rights (61 kgs). Drayton was game in 3rd leading after leading for most of the contest. There rest of the field was outclassed.

Rated as the 7th best horse in the world, Pocket Power, was king again today and looking ominous for the season.

What about Bill Of Rights run behind the champion Pocket Power carrying level weights

As one can read in the article, we did give that performance from Bill of Rights a mention.

Pocket Power gave the arguably the best miler in South Africa, a hands down beating. Regardless of level weights or not it was his first run since the Met and he simply pulverised the fitter horses. Lets applaud our champions because they are just that...champions. With racing being so money orientated, people sometimes lose sight of what the sport is all about.

I think Deelan hit the nail on the head!!!! Pocket Power is a true champ! No doubt about it! Should he lose everything else to come he will still be the champ, the peoples champ. There is no doubt in my mind that this horse will forever be the horse who stole the hearts of millions of race followers! He will lose one day, it is bound to happen and I hope the public dont slaughter him for the amount of money they lost on betting on a "un beatable" horse because you cant win everything. Lets savour these moments of a champion because when he is retired its only memories to fall back on. Admiration is the order from now on. On the other hand, Mr.Bass, the owners, jockey, groom and the whole team need to be applauded for keeping this horse in such an outstanding condition! Well done. I take my hat off to you'll!

On a day where front running was the way to win races, here comes the "Pocket Rocket" and runs them down from way off the pace. I speak under correction but I'm sure he was the onlyl horse who came home from well off the pace! I remember sitting in the Shelley Beach tote when PP won his maiden at Kenilworth over 1600m. I had a measely R200 on him at 4-1 but he stole my head, heart and soul with the way he quickens and looks so at ease with what God intended him to do! I have backed him EVERY time since not missing a 1200m race or a J&B Met. Even when he did not manage to pass the wire in front I felt as if it was money well spent. I paid my fees to see one of the greatest South African movies unfold right in front of my eyes! Well done PP!!!!! Well done to the Bass team and well done to Mr. Shirtliff. An even bigger thanks to him for keeping PP in the country for as long as he has! Now..............I would love to see PP take on the worlds best as I have always rated him as a horse who can take on the big bo

Pocket Power has proven him self over all sort of distances. Like hundreds of others ,All will agree he is different class, Despite his hoof problems, he has been able to win three Mets , three queens plates. and i remember the year he ran fouth in the July , he didnt have the ideal prep according to 'Bass yet still flew up to run fourth in the July. He would have been on track to making it three July Handicaps. Mark Shirtliff is such a lucky owner and I think every owner wants to be him at the moment. Mike Bass well he is a champion for making the champion what he is. I think that this year is going to be Pockets Year . A clean sweep. and lets hope he can do us proud overseas if the owners do decide on an international career. Who knows my horse may just be in the final July Field 2010 and I wouldnt want to bump the champ, ,,,,,GO POCKET GO
