'DREAM HORSE' Chaldean Retired,

Trainer Andrew Balding expressed his admiration for Chaldean, describing him as a "dream horse" upon the announcement of his retirement to Banstead Manor Stud by owners Juddmonte. Chaldean, a son of Frankel, had an impressive juvenile season, winning four out of five starts, which included the Acomb Stakes at York, the Champagne Stakes at Doncaster, and the Dewhurst at Newmarket.

While his three-year-old campaign started on a challenging note with an unseating of jockey Frankie Dettori in the Greenham Stakes at Newbury, Chaldean made a remarkable comeback to secure a victory in the 2000 Guineas at Rowley Mile in May. He also finished well in the St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot but faced disappointment in the Prix Jean Prat at Deauville during the summer. His last race at Ascot, the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes, was a struggle, marking the end of his racing career.

Balding praised Chaldean as the most professional and beautifully balanced horse at Kingsclere, highlighting his unique progression from prestigious wins at two years old in the Acomb Stakes, Champagne Stakes, and Dewhurst Stakes, to his victory in the 2000 Guineas as a three-year-old.

Simon Mockridge, the general manager of Juddmonte UK, extended gratitude to Andrew Balding and the teams at Kingsclere and Juddmonte for their role in shaping Chaldean's racing career. Chaldean will now continue his legacy as the first son of Frankel to stand at Banstead Manor Stud, strengthening Juddmonte's European stallion roster.
