The Cape Racing Sale topper at R3.2m was bought by a new investor in South African racing. With links to the Rupert's of Drakenstein Stud, Rolf Theiler was announced as the buyer who splashed the cash on a Trippi full sister to Trip Of Fortune. Here's more about the Swiss Buisnessman. He is married to South African, Gloria Arendz.
Rolf Theiler, born on November 5, 1957, is a distinguished Swiss entrepreneur and philanthropist. As the founder and co-owner of Mercedes CSI and the chairman and president of Laureus Foundation Switzerland, he has left an indelible mark on both the business and philanthropic landscapes.
A native of Zurich, Switzerland, Theiler is the youngest among his siblings. In 2012, he assumed the role of President of the Laureus Foundation CH and actively serves on the board of trustees. The foundation engages in more than 140 charitable projects spanning 46 countries, impacting the lives of 1.5 million children globally. Theiler's significant contributions have raised millions, aiding over 10,000 children annually in Switzerland, thanks to partnerships with notable entities like IWC, Mercedes-Benz, Roland Berger, J. Safra Sarasin, and Ochsner Sport.
In 2014, Theiler further extended his philanthropic efforts by founding the Laureus Cavallo 'Golf for Good' charity. Notably, he co-founded CSI in 1988 alongside his brother Urs. Their initial investment of approximately CHF 2 million paved the way for the first event, drawing 21,000 spectators. Today, CSI stands as the largest and most lucrative indoor equestrian tournament globally, boasting over 1 million spectators and hosting the prestigious Grand Prix show jumping championship, televised live by FEI TV. Mercedes-Benz has been a steadfast partner and sponsor since the tournament's inception.
Beyond his entrepreneurial endeavors, Theiler's journey in equestrian sports began at the age of 13. His professional riding career saw him represent the Junior Swiss Team, and by 18, he secured the European Championship for the Swiss National Team. Over a seven-year span, he officially represented the Swiss National Show Jumping Team and clinched the Swiss Indoor Championship in 1977. With over 20 years as the 'Chef d'Equipe' for the team, he successfully guided them to Olympic qualification in Athens.
Theiler's influence extends globally as the official World Cup Organizer & Treasurer of the International Federation for Equestrian Sports (FEI). He holds honorary positions, including president of Swiss Top Sport and senior committee member and treasurer of the 'Jumping Owners Club' (JOC).
His collaboration with accomplished riders, such as Beat Mändli, Markus Fuchs, and Martin Fuchs, reflects his commitment to the sport's excellence. Theiler's horses, like 'Idéo Du Thot' and 'Principal,' have left an indelible mark on the international equestrian stage.
Welcome to South Africa racing!
