Mauritian racing is set for a seismic boost in 2025 with the return of one of its most popular and successful jockeys — Manoel Nunes.
Trainer Ramapatee “Soun” Gujadhur has officially secured the services of the Brazilian ace for the upcoming season, a move that signals serious intent from the legendary stable. Nunes, no stranger to the island’s racing fans, brings back not just world-class ability but a winning legacy.
Crowned Champion Jockey in 2019, Nunes became a household name in Mauritius thanks to his cool hands, tactical brilliance, and big-race temperament. That season, he delivered standout performances riding for the Rameshwar Gujadhur stable, even while making key appearances for Amar Sewdyal and Shyam Hurchund.
His past triumphs still echo around Champ de Mars. In 2018, he steered Hard Day’s Night to glory in the Duke of York Cup, while the following year, his partnership with the iconic White River swept the classics — The Barbé Cup, The Maiden Cup, and again the Duke of York Cup, also referred to as The Gold Cup.
Now aligned with the Gujadhur camp — one of the most storied names in Mauritian racing — Nunes returns with unfinished business and fans can expect a thrilling campaign ahead. His presence adds a touch of class and international flair, and it’s safe to say the 2025 season just got a lot more interesting.
