Mauritian owner Vimal Damry has boosted his racing string with seven 2yo's bought at the South African August 2yo sales. Each purchase pairs promising bloodlines with price tags that suggest a clear plan: target success back home at Champ de Mars.
Damry — already active in regional racing circles — appears to be building depth and variety in his stable with a mix of sires suited to South African tracks and Mauritian racing conditions. The purchases range from inexpensive value buys to more premium yearlings, showing a balanced approach that prioritises both upside and affordability.
The new additions
- GIMMEAGAMBLE (Gimmethegreenlight × Captain Gamble) — R210,000
- FOUND A TWENTY (Twice Over × Count To Ten) — R120,000
- WINSTON'S GUARD (What A Winter × Duchess Of Windsor) — R150,000
- TORRENT OF GOLD (Gold Standard × Irish Torrent) — R430,000 (pictured)
- MOTION MAC (Danilo Platina × Lady Burn) — R320,000
- SILVER PROPHECY (Danilo Platina × Royal Prognosis) — R230,000
- POINT BARROW (The United States × She's So Cold) — R360,000
Standouts in the roster include Torrent Of Gold, bought for R430,000, and two youngsters by Danilo Platina, which underline Damry’s interest in both established and emerging stallions. These yearlings give him a mix of sprint and middle-distance profiles that should adapt well to racing at Port Louis.
With these targeted purchases, Damry is reinforcing his presence in regional racing and signaling intent to bring competitive South African-bred performers to Mauritius. Expect his colours to feature more regularly at Champ de Mars in seasons ahead.
