Extreme Choice Colt Hits $2 Million to Share Top Honours After Red-Hot Day Two at Magic Millions

The second session of the 2026 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale delivered depth, confidence and sustained demand at the top end of the market.

A colt by Newgate Farm’s leading sire Extreme Choice became joint top lot of the sale when selling for $2 million on Wednesday, matching the figure paid a day earlier for the headline Frankel yearling. Bred and consigned by Kingstar Farm, the colt was secured by Yulong Investments and will race in the familiar bottle green and white silks.

The colt is a half-brother to Group 3 winner Wollombi and set new records for both Kingstar Farm and Extreme Choice, eclipsing the previous benchmark held by Blue Diamond Stakes winner Devil Night. That horse had also been purchased by Yulong for $1.4 million.

Yulong General Manager Jun Zhang said the colt was a non-negotiable target for the operation, citing both his perceived stallion potential and Yulong’s long-term strategy of developing deep family lines. The group already owns the colt’s sister, who is currently in foal.

For Kingstar Farm, the result marked a significant milestone. Stud manager Adam Cook said the colt had stood out from birth and drew comparisons with former graduates Devil Night and Stay Inside, both Group 1-winning sons of Extreme Choice. Farm owner Matthew Sandblom added that Yulong’s return as buyers underlined their confidence in the program.

The $2 million sale topped a strong day in which five yearlings sold for $1.2 million or more, lifting both the average and clearance rate.

Two colts reached $1.5 million. The first was the Snitzel colt out of Embrace Me, offered by Milburn Creek and purchased by China Horse Club in partnership with Newgate Farm and Clarke Bloodstock. Newgate’s Henry Field highlighted the colt’s physical appeal and the group’s long-standing success with Snitzel and at the Magic Millions sale.

Later in the afternoon, a Snitzel colt out of Iffranesia, bred by Arrowfield Stud, also made $1.5 million when secured by Coolmore’s Tom Magnier. The colt will be trained by Chris Waller, with Magnier pointing to Arrowfield’s breeding record and Coolmore’s recent success with Snitzel progeny.

Fillies also attracted strong demand, led by the I Am Invincible filly out of Key, who sold for $1.2 million to Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott in partnership with the Rising Sun Syndicate and Japanese owners Knine Inc. The filly is a half-sister to Im Ya Huckleberry, a Group performer and current Golden Slipper contender.

Adrian Bott described the pedigree as a current, deep black-type family, while Rising Sun representative Kosi Kawakami said the filly stood out as the best female prospect in the catalogue for their Japanese ownership group.

Another $1.2 million result came late in the session when the Snitzel colt out of Krone, offered by Rosemont Stud, was purchased by James Harron Bloodstock’s Colt Partnership alongside Tony Fung Colts. Harron praised the colt’s athleticism and early-running profile, noting the durability and consistency of his dam.

After two days, the sale gross sits just under $94 million from 326 lots sold at an average of $288,266, tracking ahead of the same stage last year. The clearance rate has risen to 83 per cent.

Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch described the session as deep, diverse and energetic, adding that the market continued to strengthen throughout the day.

Day Three of the 2026 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale begins at 10am (Qld time) on Thursday.
