The anticipation is building for the 2024 Betway Summer Cup, now officially the richest race on the African continent. Betway and 4Racing have announced a groundbreaking increase in prize money, raising the stakes to an unprecedented R6 million.
This boost solidifies the Betway Summer Cup’s position at the pinnacle of African horse racing and demonstrates Betway’s ongoing commitment to advancing sports across the continent. The enhanced prize not only celebrates the sport and South Africa’s rich cultural heritage but also emphasizes Betway’s role in driving the growth of horse racing.
“This year marks our third collaboration with 4Racing for the Betway Summer Cup, a prestigious event where racing tradition meets modern flair. Our commitment to this partnership reflects our dedication to horse racing and the vibrant community it brings together. With the stakes now at R6 million, up from R5 million in 2023, we’re making history and heightening the excitement for everyone involved. We’re eager to showcase South Africa’s finest horses, fashion, and entertainment at Turffontein Racecourse on 30 November 2024,” said Jonathan Blumberg, Betway Africa.
Additionally, the grooms who care for the horses participating in the Betway Summer Cup will be recognized with a special R20,000 prize. “Grooms are the backbone of the sport, and their unwavering dedication to and love for the horses deserve acknowledgment. We want to honor their hard work and commitment,” Blumberg added.
The Betway Summer Cup, a distinctly Johannesburg event, has now been elevated to Africa’s richest race, thanks to Betway’s support. This increased stake is sure to draw attention from owners and trainers nationwide. “Our goal is to bring together people from all walks of life to enjoy the thrill and glamour of this spectacular race day. As the kickoff to Gauteng’s festive season, there’s no better way to celebrate than with ‘Silks In the City’—the theme for the 2024 Betway Summer Cup,” commented Fundi Sithebe, CEO of 4Racing.
